Admission to Professional Courses in Karnataka for the year 2012-13

Applications are invited from eligible candidates of Karnataka including the wards of Jammu & Kashmir migrants for registration for the Common Entrance Test-2012 for admission to first year Medical/Dental/ Ayurveda/ Homoeopathy/Unani/ Naturopathyand Yoga / Engineering/Technology/Architecture courses for the seats to be notified by the Govt in the Professional Educational institutions in the state of Karnataka for the academic year 2012-13
A candidate must appear for the common entrance test conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority, for PCB subjects in case of admission to Medical/Dental/Ayurveda/Homoeopathy/ Unani/ Naturopathy and Yoga courses and PCM subjects in case of admission to Engineering/Technology courses
For admission to Architecture course the candidate must appear for NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) conducted by the Council of Architecture and they must compulsorily obtain CET-2012 brochure and submit the filled application form (visit KEA website for list of institutions conducting NATA)
Last date to appear for NATA is 19th May, 2012
The merit will be determined in accordance with the provisions of the Karnataka Selection of candidates for admission to Govt seats in Professional Educational Institutions Rules, 2006 as amended from time to time
Academic eligibility
Medical/Dental Courses: The applicant should have passed Karnataka 2nd PUC/12th std or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects and with English as one of the languages of study and have obtained a minimum of 50% of marks in aggregate in the PCB group and should secure a minimum of 50% of marks in aggregate in PCB subjects in the common entrance test
In case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC the minimum marks for the purpose of eligibility will be 40% of marks in aggregate in PCB group both in qualifying examination and common entrance test
Ayurveda/Homoeopathy/Unani/Naturopathy and Yoga courses: The applicant should have passed Karnataka 2nd PUC/12th std or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects and with English as one of the languages of study and have obtained a minimum of 50% of marks in aggregate in PCB group irrespective of marks obtained in the common entrance test
In case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC, the minimum marks for the purpose of eligibility will be 40% of marks in aggregate in PCB group in the qualifying examination
For admission to Medical/Dental/Ayurveda/Homoeopathy/Unani/Naturopathy and Yoga courses, the candidate should have completed the age of 17 years as on 31st December, 2012

Engineering/Technology courses: The applicant should have passed Karnataka 2nd PUC/12th std or equivalent examination with Physics and Mathematics along Chemistry/Bio-Technology/Biology as optional subjects with English as one of the languages of study and obtained a minimum of 45% of marks in aggregate in the optional subjects, irrespective of marks obtained in the common entrance test
In case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC the minimum marks for the purpose of eligibility will be 40% of marks in aggregate in the optional subjects in the qualifying examination
Architecture Course: The applicant should have passed Karnataka 2nd PUC/12th std or equivalent examination with Mathematics as a compulsory optional subject and obtained a minimum of 50% of marks in aggregate in all the subjects in the qualifying examination (45% of marks in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PwD of mental retardation or mental illness (including dyslexia) and should compulsory appear for NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) and get a minimum of 40% in it (including SC/ST/OBC)
A candidate who had obtained a seat in any discipline through the KEA (CET cell) in any of the previous years will not be eligible to appear for the common entrance test-2012 for allotment of a seat in the same discipline
Such candidate will immediately forfeit the seat selected by him during the previous years, upon allotment of a seat in a different discipline during the year
The merit list of candidates for admission to Medical and Dental courses will be determined only on the basis of marks obtained by candidates in PCB subjects, taken together, in the common entrance test
For Ayurveda/Homoeopathy/Unani/Naturopathy and Yoga/Engineering/Technology courses, the merit list will be determined on the basis of marks obtained in the respective optional subjects, in both qualifying examination and the common entrance test taken in equal proportions
For Architecture course, the merit list will be determined on the basis of marks obtained in both qualifying examination and NATA taken in equal proportions
All the items given in the CET-2012 application form should be filled by the candidates invariably
For any reason, no item should be left blank and incomplete applications are liable to be rejected
At the time of submitting the filled application form no documents need to be enclosed
The information furnished in the CET-2012 application form with regard to Caste/Category and annual income remains the same for the purpose of assignment of ranks/allotment of a seat and no change will be entertained in future for any reason
The students should produce the computerized caste/category and income certificate obtained not prior to six months from the last date of submission of CET-2012 application form without fail during the verification of original documents at the helpline centres
The minimum passing marks for all Horanadu and Gadinadu kannadiga candidates shall be 12 out of 50 marks in Kannada Language examination conducted by KEA in order to be considered for assignment of ranks and to become eligible for allotment of seats in CET-2012 (the Kannada language test paper will be of 4th standard)
Supply of brochure-cum-application form: Brochure cum application form will be supplied through the Schools/Colleges located within the State of Karnataka where the students are studying 2nd PUC/12th std examination upon submission of demand draft for Rs 650/- to the Principals in advance, drawn in favour of the Executive Director, Karnataka Examinations Authority, Bangalore, payable at Bangalore and Rs 500/- for students belonging to SC/ST/and category-1
Repeaters and ex-students who have passed the qualifying examination within the State of Karnataka before 2012 should also submit the demand draft for the above said amount to the respective schools/colleges
The last date for submission of demand draft to the Principal of Schools and Colleges within Karnataka will be 09th March, 2012
Karnataka candidates residing outside Karnataka (Horanadu, Gadinadu, and other Karanataka candidates i.e. who fulfills the eligibility conditions) who are studying or who have studies 12th std or equivalent examination outside the State of Karnataka, within the territory of India, can procure the brochure cum application form by speed post, by sending a self-addressed cloth-lined envelope of size 25cmx30cm along with a demand draft for Rs 750/- drawn in favour of the Executive Director, Karnataka Examinations Authority, Bangalore, payable at Bangalore and a Karnataka candidate residing outside India can get the brochure cum application form by sending a demand draft for Rs 5,000/-
The contents on the self-addressed envelope should be in English or Kannada language only
The cover in which the demand draft and self addressed envelope are sent should be boldly super scribed with the words request for CET-2012 brochure and should be sent to the office address of Executive Director by speed post only
The KEA will not take responsibility for the envelopes sent through courier or given in person or through any other private arrangement and also for incomplete and insufficient address on the envelope
The last date for submission of demand draft by speed post will be 15th March, 2012
The brochure will be supplied to the schools and colleges in Karnataka and also to the students who are residing outside the State of Karnataka on or after 22nd March, 2012
From this year 2012-13, there will be a change in the method of allotment of seats for admission to Medical, Dental, Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy and Engineering/Architecture course and for other courses
The allotment of seats will be done on-line by obtaining options from the eligible candidates in the order of merit/rank in CET-2012 and based on the options given by them
Verification of documents will be done in at least 10 notified helpline centres across the state after declaration of merit list
Only upon verification of documents and issue of verification slip, candidate will be allowed to enter the options
A candidate can enter any number of options of his choice either through help line centres established by KEA or on his own arrangement
The candidate also has a provision to take a print out of his/her frozen options entered by him in each round
Every candidate shall be given security user ID and password which the candidate then has to login and change the password as per his/her choice

The college and course will be allotted by the computer based on their ranking and options and the seats available in a particular college as per the seat matrix issued by the Govt

The document verification of Horanadu/Gadinadu Kannadigas and all special categories like Defence, Ex-defence, CAPF, NCC, Sports, Physically Disabled, Anglo Indian, Jammu and Kashmir, Scouts and Guides will be done only in the premises of KEA office at 18th Cross, Malleshwaram, Bangalore
