Common Admission Test - CAT Results 2011

The Common Admission Test (CAT) 2011 results for admissions in Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other institutions have been declared on January 11.

One can access the results on IIM portal www.catiim.in. One can access results by logging on to the website with their CAT registration number and email address.

IIMs and other institutions have also started free helplines as last year, the website where results were declared had crashed within three hours of the announcement. These helpline numbers would also be beneficial for those students who don’t have internet access or have connectivity problems.

CAT was conducted between October 20 and November 18 last year in 68 test centres across 36 cities.

AMIETE
AMIETE is a graduate level examination equivalent to B.E./ B.Tech. program. The AMIETE examination is held in the following engineering streams:

A candidate applying for AMIETE should not be less than 18 years for age. He/she should have passed 10 + 2 examination with Physics and Mathematics, conducted by any recognized board / university or Diploma in Engineering / Technology covering Physics and Mathematics of 10 + 2 level and work experience in relevant field.

AMIETE examination is divided in two subsections: Section A and Section B with 20 theory papers and a project work.

The most awaited HSC (Higher Secondary Education) March 2009 examination results are expected to be announced today at 11 am by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. Students can access their results online from the Maharashtra Examination Result website.

The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) will announce the SSC results on June 26 at 11 am. The results will be available on various websites, including the official website of the board www.msbshse.ac.in.
According to a press note issued by MSBSHSE, schools will receive the result sheets at the respective centres of concerned divisional boards. Mark sheets will be distributed to the students on the same day. “There will be no merit list but the specific awards given by the MSBSHSE will be declared,” said the press note.

This year 15,98,213 students appeared for the exam including 6,93,527 girls and 9,04,686 boys. Of this, 13,96,009 were freshers who appeared for exams based on the new syllabus, while 2,02,204 repeaters appeared for the old syllabus exams.

The board has declared that the last date to apply for the verification of marks is July 7. The last date to apply for the October 2008 exams is also July 7. “Those who do not pass the March 2008 exam will have a last chance to appear for the exams based on the old syllabus in October 2008. Even after that if they are unable to clear the exam, they have to appear for the exam in March 2009 based on the new syllabus,” said the press note.

The Bombay High Court had earlier ordered a stay on the declation of result after 27 students moved to the court complaining that they secured 20-40 marks less than their expectations in the 300-question test. They also claimed that complaints made to the Directorate of Medical Education and Research yielded no result. The High Court lifted the stay only on Wednesday.

Associate advocate general Ashutosh Kumbhakoni told the court that the state government had handed over the question papers to two independent institutions, conducting CETs for medical courses on All-India basis.

The names of such institutions were kept confidential. As things turned out, as many as 296 answers in the state's model answer sheet matched with those of the experts from both the institutes.

The government however invalidated two questions and granted two marks to all students without exception after the institutes stated that one question was "confusing" and they differed in their opinions over the other. Two other answers, found incorrect in the government's model answer sheet were corrected on the recommendations of the independent institutes and consequently all 6,013 papers were re-assessed.

In an effort to compete with medical schools in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, Russian medical schools have recently been targeting Indian students through regional recruitment fairs and the five regional offices of the Russian Education Foundation, in a campaign to lure them with cheap fees.

Admissions to Russian universities has picked up after a six-year low following the amendment of the Indian Medical Council Act in March 2002.The act states that Indian students can seek admission to any state university in Russia listed in the directory of medical schools of the World Health Organization. Previously, only 11 universities offering bachelor of medicine/bachelor of surgery (MBBS) degree were recognized by the Indian government.

Fees for MBBS courses in Russia run from US$2,000 to US$3,000 depending on the institution. Only “leading” universities offer instruction in English.The Degree is recognised by WHO and the MBBS graduate can practice in India after clearing screening test by Medical Council of India.Fees in Medical Universities of China are almost same.

Indian B-School Cut-offs & Percentile requirements
This is an attempt to compile the likely cut-offs for various business schools for admissions to their MBA/PGDBM programmes. Unless specifically mentioned, the cut-offs given below are for the flagship programmes of the respective institutes. All cut-offs are for open/general category students and unless mentioned the cut-offs are in percentiles and not percentages (%) or absolute scores.
Wherever possible, the cut-offs mentioned have been sourced from the respective b-schools, else it has been predicted based on past and current data plus personal interactions and experience. Though I have tried to minimise mistakes to the best of my knowledge, please forgive should a mistake have crept in. The cut-offs mentioned may not be the lowest cut-off but of the lowest point after which very few students would get a call. Please confirm this information with at least one other source before making any final decisions, and use the data prudently.
IIM Ahmedabad - CAT- 98.3 percentile
IIM Bangalore - CAT - 92 percentile
This year, IIM Bangalore has given huge weightage to work-experience thus bringing the cut-offs down. I have personally seen students not getting calls with 99.8 percentile!! ( this student had very good scores across sections but no work-experience)
IIM Calcutta/Kolkata - CAT - 97 percentile
IIM Indore - CAT - 98 percentile
IIM Kozhikode - CAT - 98 percentile
MDI Gurgaon - CAT - 97 percentile
cut-off for MDI Human Resources programme would be about 95 percentile
Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad (MICA) - CAT - 90 percentile
MICA also accepts XAT and GMAT scores. Though there is no confirmation for the same, it's widely believed that MICA expects a high English/Verbal score. Yet, quite a few Engineers do make it through so there is no bias against any academic groups.

Details: Govt. of Maharashtra shall conduct a single Combined “Common Entrance Test” MHT-CET-2006 for all Health Sciences, Engineering and Pharmacy degree courses for the academic year 2006-2007. The Entrance Test will be held on Sunday, 21st May 2006. The Govt. of Maharashtra has appointed “The Director, Medical Education and Research, Mumbai”, as “The Competent Authority for the MHT-CET-2006”. The merit list of the above said examination will be utilized for admission in:

1) Govt. / Corp. / Govt. Aided Colleges of Health Sciences degree courses.

2) Govt. /Govt. Aided / University Managed Colleges / University Departments and Unaided Private Colleges (those colleges who have given consent to participate in MHT-CET-2006) of Engineering & Pharmacy degree courses

3) BVSc & AH degree course.

The Competent Authority for selection to Health Science degree courses is The Director, Medical Education and Research, Mumbai. The Competent Authority for selection to Engineering and Pharmacy degree courses is The Director, Technical Education, Mumbai. The Concerned Authority for selection to BVSc & AH degree course is The Registrar, Maharashtra Animal and Fisheries Science University, Nagpur.

The qualifying Examination for appearing in MHT-CET-2006 is HSC (12th Std.) or equivalent examination with the conditions for eligibility as defined in the respective Brochure/s. Eligible candidates studying in Std 12th or equivalent from School/ Junior College situated in the State of Maharashtra are requested to give their requirement of Application Form and Brochures to their college/school by 27th March 2006. Those students who have passed their qualifying examination i.e. 12th standard examination at a earlier date i.e. in 2005 or earlier are requested to collect the Application form and Brochures from the same college where they had studied in 12th standard.

(Formerly West Bengal Board of Examination for Admission to Engineering Degree Colleges)

Applications are invited from Indian Citizens for admission to the undergraduate courses in the Engineering/ Technological/Dairy and Pharmacy and Medical / Dental / Veterinary and Ayurvedacharya / Homoeopathy / Physiotherapy / Unani and Nursing (H) in Universities/Colleges in West Bengal and B. Arch Course in Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur and Jadavpur University during the academic session 2007-2008, on the basis of a Joint Entrance Examination, to be conducted by the 2007West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board2007.

Date of Examination: April 22, 2007 (Sunday).

Examination Centres: Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Agartala, Guwahati and different places of West Bengal

Eligibility:
BE/ BTech: The applicant must have passed/ due to appear in 2007 at the H.S. (10+2) Examination or equivalent conducted by any Govt. recognised Board / Council with 45% marks for General candidates (40% marks for SC / ST) in the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics taken together and with 30% marks in English.

MBBS/ BDS: The applicant must have passed/ due to appear in 2007 at the H. S. Exam. (10+2) or equivalent conducted by any Govt. recognized Board / Council, with English, Vernacular (or any other fifth subject), Physics, Chemistry and Biological Sciences.. He / She also has to pass the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences and English individually, having obtained a minimum of 50 percent marks (40 percent for candidates belonging to SC /ST) in Physics, Chemistry and Biological Sciences taken together at the qualifying exam.

Pharmacy: The applicant must have passed/ due to appear in 2007 at the H. S. (10+2) Examination or its equivalent from a recognized University/Board with 45% marks for General candidates (40% marks for SC / ST) either with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or with Physics, Chemistry and Biological Sciences taken together and with atleast 30% marks in English.

Ayurvedacharya / Physiotherapy / Homoeopathy / Unani: The applicant must have passed/due to appear in 2007 at the H.S.(10+2) Examination or equivalent, conducted by any recognised Board / Council with English, Physics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences and Vernacular or any other 5th subject.

Nursing (H): The applicant (only female candidates) must have passed/due to appear in 2007 at the H.S. (10+2) or equivalent Examination recognized by West Bengal University of Health Sciences with 50% marks for General candidates (40% marks for SC / ST) in the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Biological Sciences and English taken together and have to pass the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences and English individually.

Date of Birth for Medical/ Dental/ Ayurvedacharya / Physiotherapy / Homoeopathy / Unani and Nursing (H): The candidate (both male and female) shall complete the age of 17 (seventeen) years on or before 31st December, 2007.

Residential Requirements for Medical / Dental / Ayurvedacharya / Physiotherapy / Homoeopathy / Unani and Nursing (H): Candidates shall be citizens of India and either have been residing in the State of West Bengal uninterruptedly/continuously for not less than 10 years (in case of Nursing, not less than 5 years) immediately prior to the date of making application for admission, or whose parents are permanent residents of W.B. having their permanent home address in the State of W.B. In case of Nursing (H), candidates from any State of India may be considered for admission to non-Government Institutions.

Cost of Application materials: Rs.500/- for 2007E2007 and 2007M2007 Type form and Rs.600/- for 2007C2007 type form including Information Brochure and printed Envelope. The candidates who are intending to appear for B.Arch. Exam. (GDAT) will have to pay an additional amount of Rs.200/- by D.D. in favour of 2007West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board2007 payable at Howrah / Kolkata along with duly filled in application form provided as an Addl. Sheet with Information Brochure for B.Arch. Exam.(GDAT-2007) at the time of submission of Application Form ( 2007E2007 or 2007C2007 type form only).The candidates seeking admission in Pharmacy course have to appear in Physics plus Chemistry and Mathematics or Biological Sciences or both and they will have to apply using 2007C2007 type form.

How to Apply for West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination 2007 (JEM 2007): The duly filled in application form must be sent in the printed envelope by SPEED POST so as to reach the office of the Board by 05.01.2007. Submission of Application Form by hand or courier service will not be accepted. There is no provision for selling or receiving of application form with late fee from the Board office. Results will be published within JUNE, 2007 and Rank Cards will be sent to the eligible merit listed candidates only by registered/speed post. It is to be noted that the Board is in no way responsible for admission to the Colleges. Admission is subject to fulfillment of eligibility conditions of the Central Selection Committee to whom the Merit List of candidates is sent by the Board. It does not have any provision for post publication scrutiny, inspection / review and hence will not entertain any such request. Compliance with requirements of the Joint Entrance Examination or even the inclusion in the Merit List does not guarantee admission to any Institution.

Important Dates:
Last Date for Receipt of Application Forms Complete in All Respects in the Office of the Deputy Registrar (Entrance Tests) is 21st Jan 2006 (including Tribal Areas) thereafter no application will be entertained. Roll Nos./ Admit Cards will be issued in person to the candidates on 13th and 14th February (11.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.) at the University counter. Merit list of the qualifying candidates along with Questions & their key answers will be tentatively displayed on the University notice board on 27th February 2006 and counselling/ admission will be made in IGMC Shimla on 22nd March 2006 and admission against vacancies arising due to any reason will be made on 29th May 2006.
